Join us for an inspiring evening to celebrate Black History Month with retired educator, professional storyteller, and author Carole Shelton, who will present “Portraits of African American Women in Missouri”. This program will focus on the lives of Harriet Scott and Marie Rogers Martin, two remarkable African American women whose stories shed light on the truths and myths surrounding the African American experience during the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair (officially the Louisiana Purchase International Exposition). Carole Shelton’s storytelling style promotes interaction, reflection, and growth, as she shares the history of African Americans whose resilience, talent, and ingenuity contributed to the success of this history-making event. This is a great opportunity to engage with local history, learn about important figures in Missouri’s past, and reflect on their enduring impact on our communities. The event will be held on Thursday, February 6th, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Phelps County Courthouse in the Multipurpose Room, located at 200 N Main St, Rolla, MO. The program is free and open to the public—everyone is welcome
