Volunteers are an essential part of the Rolla Public Library community. Whether you’re an adult looking to support library operations or a teen hoping to gain experience while helping with programs, we’re grateful for your time, energy, and commitment.
Teen Volunteer Program
Our Teen Volunteer Program offers young people the chance to support the library during the Summer Reading Program while gaining valuable experience.
Expectations
- Commit to a minimum of eight hours per week.
- Coordinate a weekly schedule with library staff.
- Notify the designated staff member if you are unable to attend a scheduled shift.
- Represent the library respectfully while assisting children, families, and individuals during programs.
- Work alongside library staff. Teen volunteers assist staff but are not expected to lead programming.
Training & Responsibilities
Teen volunteers may receive training in:
- Registering patrons for reading programs using Beanstack on a library laptop.
- Supporting staff during Summer Reading Program activities.
Parent/Guardian Agreement
A parent or guardian must:
- Provide a reliable contact number
- Be available by phone in case of emergency
- Supply at least one additional emergency contact
Volunteers may occasionally view confidential patron information (such as contact details or reading history). Protecting patron privacy is essential, and volunteers must agree to keep all patron information strictly confidential.
How to Apply
To apply, please read the Volunteers Policy and fill out the Teen Volunteer Form and turn it in at the main library desk, or email it to Rebecca Buckley at director@rollapubliclibrary.org. Forms are also available at the main desk.
Adult Volunteer Program
Expectations
- Commit to a minimum of four hours per week.
- Work with library staff to set a consistent weekly schedule.
- Notify the designated staff member at 573‑364‑2604 if you are unable to attend a scheduled shift.
- Conduct yourself respectfully while representing the library and working in the collection stacks.
Training & Responsibilities
Adult volunteers may receive training in:
- Shelving and straightening library materials
- Tracking patron reading through Beanstack
- Checking in library items through the library system (as needed)
- Conducting collection inventory using the Evergreen library management system on a library laptop or desktop.
