You will need your patron ID and PIN number from the Rolla Public Library. As a default, your patron ID will be your library card number and the PIN is the last 4 digits of that ID.
Accounts must remain in good standing to be able to access ebooks.

How long is the checkout period?

The lending period may vary from title to title, but most items will check out according to your account settings. EBooks an Audiobooks can be set to 7, 14, or 21 days and Video downloads can be set to 3, 5, or 7 days. To change your lending period:
    1. Sign in to your account.
    2. Click the 'Settings' link.
    3. Select your preferred lending period for each format, then click 'Done.'

How many items may I check out?

You may have up to 5 items checked out at one time.

Can I place holds on items that are not available?

You can place up to 5 titles on hold at one time. You’ll receive an email notification when a title becomes available. Once the notice is sent, you’ll have 4 days (96 hours) to borrow the title. If you don’t retrieve it in time, the title will be made available to the next user on the list.

Can the library staff place holds for me like they can for physical books?

No, eBooks are self-service for holds and check outs.

Are there any  late fees or fines?

No, the book "expires" at the end of your checkout period you selected, so it can never be turned in late.

I'm not finished reading my book yet. Can I renew it?

The option to renew a title will appear on your bookshelf within 3 days of the title’s expiration date. If there are no existing holds on a title, the Renew icon will be green. In this case, you can use the renew feature to hold a copy of the title for you, so that you can borrow it again immediately once your first checkout expires.
If there are existing holds on a title, the Renew icon will be grayed out. In this case, you can still use the renew feature to reserve a spot on the title's holds list so that you can borrow it again as soon as it's available.

My eBook is expired and will not open, what do I do?

Delete the ebook. If you would like to continue reading it, you will have to check it out again.

How do I connect my device?

Find instructions for your device listed on OverDrive's Device Resource Center.

Do I have to download and install additional software to check out library books?

Most mobile devices (Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, Apple devices and other Smartphones) have an Overdrive Media Console app available that can be used to search and checkout eBooks.
For other devices, you must download and install Adobe Digital Editions to download media and then transfer it to your device.

Can I use the Library's public computers to download eBooks to my eReader?

No. Unfortunately Overdrive (our eBook provider) requires the book to be delivered to a computer with Adobe Digital Edition installed.

Why is Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) not installed on the library's public computers?

The ADE software is designed to be a single user software. It is required to be registered to a single person, and the attached eReader must also be registered through ADE. This scenario will not work with our public computers.
